Monkey Speak

This piece was built around three specific acting principles anticipation, escalating energy, and comedic timing through holds. The monkey's reaction needed a clear anticipation beat before the tirade kicks off, then had to keep building rather than hitting one energy level and staying there, so each new beat topped the last right up until the punchline deflates it in a single held pose. Getting the contrast right between the two performances mattered just as much the onlooker's reaction needed a quieter, more grounded rhythm to play the "you don't like bananas?" exasperation against the monkey's big, constrained energy, so the two read as distinct characters rather than mirroring each other, and the punchline itself lived entirely in knowing exactly how long to hold that final deflated pose for the joke to land.
